While liposuction at my plastic surgery clinic in Scottsdale is a relatively straightforward process and one of the less invasive surgical options I offer, it’s still important to plan ahead. I love when my patients are proactive about preparing themselves for procedures both big and small. Let’s take a look at what you can do to make sure you’re mentally and physically prepared for liposuction.
Determining Your Candidacy: A successful outcome for any plastic surgery procedure starts with a close evaluation of candidacy. Everyone is different, and each person undergoes liposuction for his or her own unique reasons. However, there are some characteristics that each liposuction candidate shares.
Liposuction is likely appropriate for you if you’re close to your ideal weight but have areas of stubborn fat that are unresponsive to changes in your diet or exercise habits. Good candidates are also willing and able to take the necessary time off from work and other daily obligations to allow their bodies to fully heal.
Setting Goals: If you’re still uncertain about your candidacy, now is a good time to get close to your ideal weight, to ensure your surgery is as safe and effective as possible. Getting in the habit of eating well and working out regularly can also help you maintain your results long after your procedure is over.
Planning Your Recovery: If your goal is to look and feel your best for next summer’s beach vacation, it’s important to plan ahead. Some patients need up to a full year before their bodies completely recover, but you’ll likely get a good sense of your ultimate results by the 2- or 3-month mark. For my patients who are concerned about timing, I recommend scheduling your liposuction for the springtime. This gives your body ample time to heal before swimsuit season.
Combining Treatments: In many cases, the fat removed during liposuction can be used to sculpt and enhance other areas of the body, such as the buttocks or the breasts. My Scottsdale plastic surgery patients often find that incorporating an enlargement procedure, such as breast augmentation, can make their liposuction results appear more significant.
See for Yourself: Taking a look at before-and-after photos of previous patients can give you an idea of my approach as well as the quality of results you can expect for yourself. Additionally, my before-and-after photos feature a diverse range of patients who have all had their needs met with liposuction.
